everybody has been blogging about their first weeks on exchange; it is time to get started on mine. unfortunately i don't have many (any) photos. hahaha. so we've been having lessons for three weeks now. i have a pretty heavy timetable, with a whole lot of time spent in school. many morning to evening days. an occasional free day. tests every few weeks. exams smooshed, five papers in a week and a half. which means on one hand that i finish very early, but on the other that i will have no time to study. a little bit of an academic culture shock. but i like most of what i'm learning, though not as much as what i used to learn. i suppose that may in part be due to the fact that i used to understand stuff i learnt, but now i don't really. maybe it will get better. campus is always crowded. i don't like that part of it. i'm used to an empty school where i can leave my laptop on the table and just go and get food. on the up side, food is cheaper here, and nicer too. and anyway i hardly bring my laptop to school, since there aren't many powerpoints and it's much easier to take notes on paper. i'd intended to bike to school, but it doesn't seem like a very practical idea anymore, because the morning and evening traffic is pretty heavy, and there aren't dedicated bike lanes as i'd have liked. so sometimes i walk home after lessons. it takes about 20-30 minutes usually, and it's pretty relaxing. now that it rains most days, it's not too hot to walk. i know people like michelle and glenda will have skipped through most of this post because it has been all words but THIS IS THE PART WHERE THEY WILL HAVE TO PAY ATTENTION because it is here that i am going to say that i miss all of you. school used to be more bearable because of you guys. but now you are not here. and so a day is just that much harder to get through. people here are generally nice, but it's just not the same. rather irrelevantly, i wore my blue superpig socks yesterday! because i foresaw that it was going to be a miserable and long day (also because i couldn't find my yellow socks). and i kept stealing glances at them because it made me happy just looking at them. posted by gruff at 4:20 PM --------------------------------------------------------------------------
