once in a lifetime, in the spirit of sharing. zurich sparkling; champagne white chocolate macarons; the only photo of the bahnhofstrasse that i have, which doesn't do justice to the street; cafe by the river where silver-haired couples dance their friday afternoon away. i wish i had a video of the young man in shades who cruised coolly to the side of the road in his sleek black TT, mounted the kerb in an attempt to parallel park, probably thought it did irreparable damage to his image to try again, got out of the car, found that his attempt was way too failed to get away with, swallowed his pride for a second try, mounted the kerb again albeit less terribly, and fled. all in front of me, very conspicuously looking elsewhere, and a very bemused man, who didn't even try to pretend. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- munich heatwave; crowds and shops. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- innsbruck fairytale; swarovski crystal worlds; do these people know that it's not normal to be able to see snow-capped mountains from your room window; my leisurely walk for the day. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- salzburg music; what, yet another church? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- sermione charm; what, yet another castle?; gelato streets; unmemorable cappucino. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- verona fair; the arena; star-cross'd lovers; the most awesome bolognese that i have ever tasted. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- venice disappointment; canals; tourists galore; kids on excursion and pigeons on holiday. Too many tourists. Too many tour guide umbrellas and flags bopping above the crowd. Too many students. Not the venice i expected at all. Beautiful from afar, but ugly on the ground. and then there was the Cafe of the Snooty Waiters which had the sign Hospitality hanging on its wall but whose staff obviously cannot grasp the concept. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- lucerne magic; what, yet another river with a bridge?; saturday farmer's market; horse carriage ride, because what is a holiday without doing the touristy things. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- erm. this is too tiring. uk. posted by gruff at 2:36 PM --------------------------------------------------------------------------
