on saturday i was at the bus stop outside delfi and so i had the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the new thing that tells people when their bus is arriving. apparently this electronic thing is meant to help people manage their travel better. oh okay, the bus is going to come in 12 minutes time, i shall go home and get another 6 minutes of sleep. or hey look, i have 7 minutes, i can shop for another 5 minutes and still catch the bus! and, to my horror, the next 77 was going to come in 32 minutes, and the one after that in 57 minutes. really boosting my faith in the efficiency of our bus system. the mosquitoes would suck my blood dry in half the time. but you know, if i had 32 minutes to wait, think of the things i could do! maybe i could even go and have lunch and come back in time. or i could take a cab if i was going to be late, and then i would pay maybe 7 times the amount i would have paid if the bus had just decided to serve its purpose as affordable and efficient transport. but wait, it's all motorists' fault, because we hog the bus lanes and refuse to give way to buses and so they arrive late. not their fault. posted by gruff at 9:19 AM --------------------------------------------------------------------------
