i know i wasn't looking forward to today's training. but i wish it didn't get canceled. would have been good to get my mind off things it doesn't help to think about anyway. in my efforts to do this i thought about Eliot's question. how one achieves morality in an amoral world. it's not a trick question. it's a very real thing. and i think the answer is that you live outside the world. not physically, as in live in outer space, but you don't involve yourself in the amoral activities of the amoral world. which is what nancy does, in Silas. it's staying white by not letting yourself fall into the black, not even getting speckles of gray on you. the world is a place to live your physical life in, but the direction of morality is moved toward in a different plane. and if one can treat the earth as a transient place of residence, while in effect living on a different level, then that is how he achieves morality in an amoral world. hrm.
